Alpine Orthopaedic and Spine in Spokane Washington has the support team of experienced and professional individuals that are dedicated to prompt and compassionate care for orthopedic and spine patients and their families. Our office is committed to providing excellent service to both our referring providers and our patients. To this end, we have incorporated casting, extremity bracing and in office x-ray to streamline the experience for our patients, while positioning the office in a central location in North Spokane adjacent to other vital healthcare services and professionals.

Miguel A. Schmitz, MD "Mick"

Miguel A. Schmitz, MD Originally from Arizona, Dr. Schmitz sought to live in the Northwest early in his career as he completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and Chemistry at Carroll College in Helena, Montana, Summa Cum Laude. After earning a Doctorate from the University of Washington with Honors in 1990, Dr. Schmitz completed a five-year orthopedic residency training at the University of Texas, Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He then completed a one-year orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship at the University of Rochester in New York in 1996. He subsequently practiced orthopedic surgery with an emphasis on sports medicine, shoulder and knee. Eleven years into private practice, he elected to complete a one-year fellowship in the comprehensive management of the adult cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral spine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, healthcare partners of the Harvard Medical School. With dual fellowships in orthopaedic sports medicine and spine surgery, Dr. Schmitz complements the orthopaedic and spine community of Eastern Washington, and he looks forward to extending his experience in the management of spinal conditions and orthopaedic conditions to the community.

William W. Faloon Jr., M.D.

Dr. Faloon is originally from Upstate N.Y. although he has lived in Spokane since 1995. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, cum laude. After earning his medical degree at Upstate Medical School in Syracuse, New York, he completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He subsequently completed a sports medicine fellowship at Temple University in Philadelphia, a foot and ankle fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, and a total joint replacement fellowship in Phoenix, Arizona. His broad training allows him to provide high quality and thorough orthopedic care. His care is also compassionate and centered towards the specific needs of each individual patient. He looks forward to continuing in the management of patients with orthopedic problems within the Spokane community and surrounding areas.

J. Ryan Saunders, MPAS, PA-C

J. Ryan Saunders, MPAS, PA-CRyan’s broad-based background beyond medicine has allowed him to bring a unique perspective to Alpine Orthopaedic and Spine, P.C. Raised in Coulee City, Washington, Ryan originally sought a career in architecture at Washington State University for one year. He then chose to serve his country in the US Army as a Combat Engineer for three years. Upon returning to the Northwest, he studied civil engineering for three years at the University of Idaho. Realizing that he enjoys using his hands, he completed training in invasive cardiovascular technology at Spokane Community College, and he then worked as a cardiovascular technologist in San Antonio for eight years. While in Texas, he studied biochemistry at the University of Texas, San Antonio. With an opportunity to return to the Northwest, he ultimately elected to complete his degree as a physician’s assistant at the University of Washington, graduating in 2006. He earned Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine in 2007, while working as a PA with Spokane Plastic Surgeon, Kaiulani Morimoto, MD, and the Rockwood Clinic. Having worked in all aspects of Plastic surgery and having studied engineering, Ryan’s background lends itself well to the orthopaedic and spine clinic.
